Arjan Mann, Youth Volunteer

From the start of the pandemic to now a lot of people’s mental health have been affected. I good way to cope with stress is to play sports. Sports are very good for our physical and mental health. An article on Active Norfolk.org says that sports whether you are playing sports, working out at a gym, or taking a brisk walk, physical activity triggers brain chemicals that make you feel happier and more relaxed.

When you are physically active, your mind is distracted from daily stresses. This can help avoid getting bogged down by negative thoughts. Exercise reduces the levels of stress hormones in your body. At the same time, it stimulates production of endorphins. These are natural mood lifters that can help keep stress and depression at bay. Endorphins may even leave you feeling more relaxed and optimistic after a hard workout on the field. Experts agree that more quality research is needed to determine the relationship between sports and depression.

All in all, sports are overall a fun way of coping with stress depression. Sports are also very helpful towards our physical health. There have been so many studies and they all show that sports are amazing for a person’s overall well-being.
